Consultations, treatment & pharmacy at Klinik Kesihatan Kuala Lumpur (KKKL) Jalan Fletcher

My consultation with Dr Nurul was for today, and since it's the first time I am at KKKL, I decided to write about the experience here, so that for those of you who are new to HIV care and need direction and advice, I hope this will be helpful.

Overview of KKKL
Public parking is on the right-side

My visit to KKKL
So I arrived at 7.15am and there are several people queuing by the main entrance already. Good thing there is plenty of parking available.

The door open at 7.30am, and you go in turn right to take a number and register and pay (for first time).

Those with referral letter (HIV care): you don't need to show your letter to the nurse at the number counter - just say "appointment dengan Dr Nurul", they know.

After taking your number, wait for it to be called and you go to the counter to register first and make payment of RM1.

Note: the numbers are not in order. A001 is for someone else who's not to see Dr Nurul, so no worries.

Kaunter Pendaftaran & Bayaran

Then you will be directed to Bilik 52 at the Outpatient (Pesakit Luar). Just turn right and head on till you see a kid's playground. The waiting area is beside the playground. Do not sit in front of the counter as the number will not be displayed there!

Outpatient Counter: DO NOT SIT HERE

The number will be displayed outside Bilik 48-61 corridor so make sure you sit here.

Sit here.
The counter (pic above) is on the left end of this picture

When it's called, go to Bilik 52 to see the male nurse first and get your readings and records sorted out and ready for Dr Nurul, who is in Bilik 53. She now has 3 assistants to help her!

Bilik 52 & 53

Once that's done, just wait a while (1 minute?) to next door to see doctor. All in all, the process from register to here is around half an hour, provided you arrive before 7.30am.

After all the consultations time, it's time to go to the pharmacy to collect medication. The pharmacy is on the left hand side of the main entrance - opposite the main registration counter.

Pharmacy

This picture was taken at 8.30am, quite empty! And I was the 4th person to collect medication, unlike Tanglin where the wait is 1 hour!! Within 10 minutes my number is called. As with first time, the pharmacist on duty needed to talk to me about my medication history so off we went into the Bilik Kaunseling at the corner, talked for half an hour before I was excused.

So all in all, I establish that the timing it takes from consultation to medication is roughly 1 hour, pretty much the same as Tanglin back in those days.

Here' the good news, here you can opt for PosLaju (must register at Pharmacy) or drive-through for your medication, which means instant collect and no need to park and wait at the counter!

However you must call/SMS them 2 working days before collection so that they can prepare your medication and come drive-through. The below picture is pretty self explanatory.

Before I left at 9.30am, here's the crowd. Note there is nobody already at the queue for number(along the pillars).

REPEAT VISIT FOR CONSULTATION
I asked a lot of questions to help you all. In fact I think I made my presence known to the nurses and staff with my endless questions!

The next time you come here, just queue for your number at the main counter and then proceed straight to wait outside Bilik 52 for your number to be called there, starting 8am. There is no need to register and pay again.

FOR PHARMACY ONLY/COLLECT MEDICATION
1. You can walk in to collect medication. Just proceed straight to the pharmacy counter for your number. NOT the main counter for number.

2. You can opt for drive-through (read instructions above).

3. You can opt for PosLaju (please register with Pharmacy first. Each delivery is RM5.30 for local courier).
